I’ve lived with migraines for as long as I can remember. From 2017 to 2023, I even kept a log of my headaches—though somewhere along the way, I stopped (I’m not sure why).
When they first started, I’d get them about once a month. Then they became once every two weeks, then a few days in a row, then almost every week. It kept getting worse, and naturally, I began to worry. I consulted a neurologist, underwent an MRI, and thankfully, the more serious conditions could be ruled out. Turns out, I’m just one of those people who’s more prone to migraines. 😆
There are countless possible triggers, but the most common ones for me are: weather changes, moving from a cold room to hot outdoors, caffeine, chocolate, dehydration, lack of sleep, strong smells, sudden head movements (like riding a rollercoaster—sadly, a guaranteed migraine for me), bright flickering lights, hormones, and generally unhealthy habits such as poor diet and lack of exercise.
Looking back, I think that last part played a big role. Since I started losing weight and eating healthier, my migraines have eased up significantly. These days, they mostly show up around my period, after sudden temperature changes, or if I’m unlucky enough to be near a heavy perfume spritz.
To put it into perspective: I used to have migraines almost every week—or sometimes 4–5 days in a row. Now, it’s down to about 1–3 days every two months. That’s a huge improvement, and I’m so grateful. Hopefully, as I continue on this journey of healthier choices, I’ll be able to keep the migraines away for even longer stretches.
