In the past, I had a tendency to overshare. Sharing my troubles, dreams, and plans without a second thought was normal for me. Looking back, I think this habit grew from feeling unheard and undervalued in my own home. I was raised in an environment where my thoughts and feelings were rarely validated, so I found myself seeking that validation from others. But over time, I realised that while it’s important to have a support system, it’s equally important to set boundaries and guard my privacy.
This change empowered me. Not only did I regain control over my narrative, but I also found myself enjoying my own achievements more fully. There’s a unique satisfaction in keeping some moments private, celebrating them without the weight of external opinions or comparisons.
While I have this blog where I share bits of my life, I’m mindful about how much I disclose. I’ve even set 12 posting guidelines to help me decide what’s worth sharing and when. For example, if I do post about an achievement, I wait until I’ve fully enjoyed it, capturing every feeling it brought me, so that by the time I write about it, the experience feels complete.
Ultimately, privacy has become a tool of empowerment for me. It’s a way of reclaiming control over my story, maintaining boundaries, and protecting my peace. Sharing is valuable, but keeping some parts of my journey private allows me to nurture my goals and celebrate them without interference. In the end, privacy isn’t just about secrecy—it’s about preserving your energy for what truly matters.
